John Platt: Either just before or just after the UK visit the band attended MIDEM, the annual music biz convention in Cannes. This may well have been the prime reason for the European visit – ie for Buddah to market three of their acts. Whilst in Cannes the Magic band played a quasi-impromptu gig on the beach. Contrary to popular belief this was not just a photo-opportunity (hence the French album sleeve) but a proper performance. Their equipment was borrowed from the Blossom Toes, one of whom (Kevin Westlake) acted as roadie, along with ex T. Bone Gary Farr. The set was filmed by French TV and two numbers from it, Electricity and Sure Nuff ‘n’ Yes I Do were shown on the 3rd February, as part of a rock programme entitled ‘Bouton Rouge’ (both numbers survive in French TV archive) Michel Lecame: The concert took place at the 2nd MIDEM festival which stands for ‘Marche International du Disque et de L’Edition Musicale’. It began on Sunday 21st of January and ended on Saturday 27th of January 1968 …
